Steller Systems’ Design Accelerator

Wednesday, August 14th, 2024

With the rising use of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) in military applications worldwide, Steller Systems was tasked with exploring the civilian potential of these vessels.

Utilising Steller Systems’ Design Accelerator process, which leverages the power of Siemens NX alongside the efficient integration of our hull optimisation tool HullTune®, as well as other tools including Paramarine and Simcenter Nastran, we are able to rapidly and efficiently refine designs to ensure viability, provide realistic performance estimates, and chart a clear development path.

Following this innovative process has allowed us to transform our 6m Instep hullform in a very short amount of time into the Swift Response Craft (SRC), a versatile remote-controlled response vessel, allowing us to explore a number of design options and applications.

The resulting platform features twin jet propulsion that can power the craft in excess of 40 knots and enable a cruise range over 100 miles, allowing it to get on scene and render assistance ahead of the arrival of a crewed vessel. The SRC’s configurable payload area can be fitted with a range of options – from lifesaving equipment for search and rescue operations, to firefighting, to spill response – to suit any role where response time is critical. The craft is deployable from any number of davits or launch systems for quick response on land or at sea.

Gyro-stabilised thermal cameras, combined with high resolution radar give superior situational awareness and a range of communication systems run in parallel to ensure the remote connection is always stable.
